Obituary for Harriet Meyerink
Harriet Meyerink, 87, of Platte, SD passed away Saturday, May 27, 2017 at Platte Care Center Avera. Funeral Services are 10:30 A.M. Thursday, June 1, 2017 at Platte Christian Reformed Church. A Committal Service will follow at Platte City Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. Wednesday, May 31, 2017 with a 7:00 P.M. Prayer Service.
Harriet (Veurink) Meyerink was born on November 5, 1929 to Gerrit and Elizabeth (Vander Tuin) Veurink on the family farm in Douglas County, SD. She attended country school and was united in marriage to Gerard Meyerink on February 22, 1950 at the New Holland Christian Reformed Church. She was dedicated to her family and took pride in being a farmwife and mother. She gardened, canning what she grew.
Harriet was a member of the Platte Christian Reformed Church and Ladies Aid. She did lots of baking for her family and employees – she was known for her homemade bread and cookies. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles and visiting over coffee.
Grateful for having shared in Harriet’s life: her five children: David (Mary) Meyerink of Platte, SD, Dennis (Dena) Meyerink of Geddes, SD, Dean (Angela) Meyerink of Geddes, SD, Duane (Tamera) Meyerink of Platte, SD and Carol (Craig) Pettit of Kalona, IA; 13 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren: Jarod (Brooke) Meyerink – Nolan, Regg, and Crew, Joni (Ross) Van Zee – Cadence, Maddux and Manny, Kyle (Tricia) Meyerink – Isabel, Abigail and Amelia, Kory (Erynn) Meyerink – Brynn, Dani and Eve, Chelsey (Kyle) Watson, Kelsey Meyerink, Dr. Benjamin Meyerink, Denielle Meyerink (Tyler Etrheim) and Sadie Meyerink, Jaden and Jevin Meyerink, Zach and Connor Pettit; a brother, Leroy (Elaine) Veurink; five sisters-in-law: Anna Mae Veurink, Mavis Veurink, Marlene (Glenn) Meeter, Juna Meyerink, Mary Ann Meyerink; a brother-in-law, Merle (Joyce) Meyerink; along with many nieces and nephews.
Harriet was preceded in death by: her husband, Gerard Meyerink (Mar. 15, 2004); a daughter, Cheryl Meyerink; her parents, Gerrit and Elizabeth Veurink; three sisters and five brothers.
