Obituary for Janet Strickland-Collins
Janet Lee Strickland-Collins, 66, of Platte, SD, formerly of Salina, KS passed away unexpectedly on Friday, July 7, 2017 at her home. Memorial Services are 10:30 A.M. Thursday, July 13, 2017 at Mount Funeral Home in Platte. A Prayer Service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at 7:00 P.M.
Janet Lee (Woolverton) Strickland-Collins was born on September 3, 1950 to Eldred Jesse and Margaret Louise (Roscoe) Woolverton in Salina, KS. She graduated from Salina High School in 1968 and became a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) at Asbury Hospital in Salina. On July 11, 1973 she married Harold Fleming. She was employed in Sales with Tony’s Pizza and then for The Schwan Food Company when they purchased it.
In 1991, Janet was united in marriage to Michael Strickland-Collins in Salina. She was a self taught artist, loved crafts, had a gift for growing beautiful flower and vegetable gardens and could always find a bargain. Janet was loving and kind with a big heart, she could talk to anyone – you were never a stranger for long and she enjoyed her adventures. Janet had been a resident of Platte, SD since November 2004.
Grateful for having shared in Janet’s life: her daughter, April (Michael) Griffith of Caldwell, Idaho; three grandchildren: John, Michael and Jesse; a sister, Jill (Steve) Westendorf of Sturgis, SD; a sister-in-law, Linda Woolverton of Salina, KS; a niece, Shawn Woolverton-Cox of Salina, KS; along with many other relatives and friends.
Janet was preceded in death by her husband, Michael (2007); her parents; and a brother, David L. Woolverton.
