Scott Robert Rougemont was born on August 13, 1957 to Dean and Shirlee (DeJong) Rougemont in Platte, SD. He attended Platte Public School, participating in basketball and track before graduating in 1975. He helped his father, Dean and brother, Monte build a cabin for Dean and Shirlee in the southern Black Hills in 1976.
In May of 1977, Scott married Pat Mason and following their divorce, he moved to California where he was employed as a car salesman for the next 30 years. He then returned to Platte where he sold cars for three local dealers prior to opening his own car lot, Scott’s First Rate Auto Sales – selling over 400 vehicles on his own before the time of his death.
He was a member of the First Reformed Church in Platte where he professed his faith in Christ and committed his life to living for Him. Scott was able to renew many friendships after returning from California and was always ready to help friends in need. He loved his job, the people he worked with, and his many repeat customers.
Scott had a special relationship with his sister, Michelle, who joined him in his auto sales when she retired from teaching. Michelle and Scott made a great team as they purchased cars for the business.
Grateful for having shared in Scott’s life: his mother, Shirlee Rougemont of Platte, SD; his sister, Michelle (Gary) Iedema of Platte, SD; his brother, Monte (Fran) Rougemont of Roslyn, SD; two nieces: Jamie (Todd) Mack and Rosanne (Andrew) Reinartz; two nephews: Ryan (Jen) Iedema and Michael (Nora) Iedema; along with cousins; and several great nieces and nephews.
Scott was preceded in death by his father, Dean Rougemont; his maternal and paternal grandparents; and special aunt and uncle: Jean (Ivan) Holter and Gene (Mary) Rougemont.
