Mary Lou  Krell (Beckman)
Mary Lou Krell, 87, of Plankinton, SD passed away Wednesday, August 2, 2017 at her home. Funeral Mass is 2:30 P.M. Monday, August 7, 2017 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Plankinton. A Committal Service will follow at Mizpah Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. Sunday, August 6, 2017 with a 7:00 P.M. Wake Service.

Mary Lou (Beckman) Krell was born on June 5, 1930 to Bernard and Mary (Anton) Beckman in Mitchell, SD. She graduated from Wessington Springs High School in 1947 and went on to attend Mitchell Business College. On November 27, 1950, Mary Lou was united in marriage to Edwin Krell at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Wessington Springs, SD. Together they farmed until 1964 when they moved to Plankinton, SD.

She was bookkeeper for Krell Trucking for many years, worked at the Fellows and Fellows Law Office, was Aurora County Deputy Treasurer, and then elected Treasurer for one term. After retiring, Mary Lou became the first woman elected to serve as Aurora County Commissioner.

Mary Lou was a member of: St. John’s Catholic Church and Altar Society in Plankinton; VFW Aurora Cty. #6554 Auxiliary; the Aurora County Democrats and the Ever Ready Eleven Club. She enjoyed bowling, sewing, reading and visits from family and friends.

Grateful for having shared in Mary Lou’s life: her husband of over 66 years, Ed Krell of Plankinton, SD; three children: Gary (Bev) Krell of Four Corners, WY, Cindy (Bob) Hine of Wessington Springs, SD and Mike (Mary) Krell of Plankinton, SD; seven grandchildren: Ty (Jenny) Krell, Tandi (Jason) Croghan, Tara (Tav) Sayaloune, Jason (Kristi) Hine, Jacki (Jarrod) Bultsma, Jordan Krell and Justin Krell; 11 great-grandchildren; a brother, Don (Darlene) Beckman of White Lake, SD; four sisters-in-law: Carol Schoenfelder of Mitchell, SD, Patricia (Leonard) McGregor of Oak Harbor, WA, Sharon (Daryle) Mahaney of Colorado City, CO and Judi (Dave) Lickteig of Boerne, TX; along with several nieces and nephews.

Mary Lou was preceded in death by her parents, Bernard and Mary Beckman; a brother, Anthony Beckman; her father and mother-in-law, Harry and Ruth Krell; and two brothers-in-law: Don “Bud” Krell and Gib Schoenfelder.
