Obituary for George Shea
George Clarence Shea, 69, of Corsica, SD passed away Sunday, August 27, 2017 at University Medical Center of El Paso in Texas. Funeral Services are 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, September 5, 2017 at the New Holland Christian Reformed Church. A Committal Service will follow at New Holland Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. Monday, September 4, 2017 at Mount Funeral Home in Platte, SD with a 7:00 P.M. Prayer Service.
George Clarence Shea was born on November 10, 1947 to William L. Shea, Sr. and Anna M. (Grimm) Shea in Platte, SD. He graduated from Platte High School in 1966 and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology in Rapid City, SD in 1971. He also served in the South Dakota Army National Guard during his time at college. George went on to a career as an Electrical Engineer for the US Navy while living in Virginia and then for various Contractors designing Missile Technology.
On August 13, 2005 George was united in marriage to Barbara West in Platte after being together for three years. George was a member of the New Holland Christian Reformed Church and was on the Board of Directors for Douglas Electric Cooperative. He enjoyed woodworking, reading science-fiction books, and always had projects he was focused on. More than anything he cherished his time with his family.
Grateful for having shared in George’s life: his wife of 12 years, Barbara Shea of Corsica, SD; eight children: William J. Shea of King George, VA, Patrick (Pamela) Shea of Fredericksburg, VA, Eric (Michelle) Shea of Fairfax, VA, Johanne Shea of Richmond, VA, Jennifer Shea of Fredericksburg, VA, Bobby (Amanda) Adams of Council Bluffs, IA, Barbara Adams of El Paso, TX and Michael (Sally) Shea of Fredericksburg, VA; 10 grandchildren: Douglas, Kyle, Alexander, Brendan, Madison, Ethan, Ashley, Katelyn, Aidan and Asher; two brothers: William (Florence) Shea, Jr. of Corsica, SD and Robert Shea of Bridgeport, NE; two sisters: Mary (Melvin) Weekley of Dover, PA and Angela (Ronald) Boone of Marietta, GA; along with numerous nieces and nephews and his first wife, Eileen Shea of Fredericksburg, VA.
George was preceded in death by his parents, William L. Shea, Sr. and Anna M. (Shea) Bartekoske; his stepfather, William Bartekoske; a sister-in-law, Hattie Shea; and grandson, Steven Greer.
