Obituary for Marcia Maureen Mesman (Meis)

Marcia Maureen Mesman (Meis)
Marcia Maureen Mesman, 74, of Platte, SD passed away Friday, November 17, 2017 at Platte Health Center Avera. Funeral Services are 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, November 22, 2017 at Calvary Baptist Church in Platte. A Committal Service will follow at Platte City Cemetery. Family Visitation at the church will begin at 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday.

Marcia Maureen (Meis) Mesman was born on December 28, 1942 to Emil and Freda (Hufsmith) Meis in Geddes, SD. She graduated from Geddes High School in 1961 and married her high school sweetheart, Donald Mesman, on June 30, 1961 at the First Reformed Church in Platte, SD. Early in their marriage, she received Jesus as her Savior. This gave her the joy, peace, confidence and strength to face life, especially the last six years as she battled cancer.

Marcia loved farm life, working alongside Don and took pride in being a farmwife, homemaker and mother. Her true stories of life growing up on a farm made for great bedtime stories for her grandchildren. She always had a way of making those around her feel special, often through her excellent cooking and baking. You couldn’t go over to Marcia’s house without being welcomed in for a cup of coffee and a slice of homemade bread or angel food cake.

Marcia’s faith in Jesus influenced every area of her life. She was a prayer warrior, covering her friends and loved ones constantly in prayer. She served in AWANA and Sunday School for many years, knowing how important it is for the word of God to be impressed on the hearts of young children. When going through cancer treatments, she would talk to her doctors and nurses about Jesus, the ultimate healer.

She enjoyed spending time in her ever-growing garden, canning everything from beets to potatoes. Marcia also loved watching and feeding the many varieties of birds around the farm. She also enjoyed quilting and spent hours sewing quilts for each of her grandchildren before they each headed off to college. For a brief time she worked making pies and was also employed by the Platte Nursing Home and LifeQuest.

Grateful for having shared in Marcia’s life: her husband of over 56 years, Don Mesman of Platte, SD; two sons: Kent (Barb (Dyk)) Mesman of Sioux Falls, SD and Lowell (Amy (Converse)) Mesman of Pierre, SD; four grandchildren: Erica (Tim) Miller, Amanda Mesman, Conner Mesman and Emma Mesman; two great grandchildren: Jack and Maxwell; along with several nieces and nephews.

Marcia was preceded in death by: her parents; a sister, Beverly Gau and her husband, Leo; a nephew, Bradley; and a brother, Darrell Meis.
