Janice Scott (Herrold)
Janice Scott, 86, of Plankinton, SD passed away Friday, March 16, 2018 at Firesteel Healthcare Center in Mitchell, SD. Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, May 5, 2018 at the United Methodist Church in Plankinton. A Committal Service will follow at Mizpah Cemetery.
Janice Evelyn (Herrold) Scott was born on August 11, 1931 to Dwight and Josephine (Barton) Herrold in Mitchell, SD. She was later joined by three younger siblings: George, Gladys and Jim. In 1949 she graduated from Plankinton High School.
On June 11, 1950 Janice was united in marriage to George Edward Scott at the United Methodist Church in Plankinton. To this union five children were born: Mary, Beverly Jo, James, Sandra and Timothy. They enjoyed playing cards, attending high school football games and 4-H activities. Her hobbies included: embroidery, sewing, and her lifelong passion for scrapbooking and Genealogy. They made their home in Plankinton, SD, Pickstown, SD, Lake Andes, SD and Sioux City, IA before returning to Plankinton.
Janice was a member of the United Methodist Church in Plankinton where she taught Sunday School and Bible School. She and George purchased the 100 year old Lathrop home and made it into a Bed and Breakfast with his Barber Shop on the back porch in the 1980’s. She was later employed at the Aurora County Extension Office as Secretary until her retirement. Janice lived with her daughter, Bev until entering the Firesteel Healthcare Center in Mitchell.
Grateful for having shared in Janice’s life: her three children: Mary (Wayne) Higgason of Plankinton, SD, Beverly Jo Scott Svatos of Plankinton, SD and Sandra Noble of Arizona and her husband, Floyd Noble of Plankinton, SD; a daughter-in-law, Jackie Scott of Wagner, SD; a brother, Jim (Sally) Herrold of Pickstown, SD; two sisters-in-law: Karen Herrold of Lake Andes, SD and Beverly Folan Scott of Plankinton, SD; a brother-in-law, Red Allen of Kansas; six grandchildren; five step grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and seven great-great grandchildren; along with 24 nieces and nephews.
Janice was preceded in death by her husband, George Scott (Dec. 24, 2014); two sons: Timothy Scott (1978) and James Scott (2012); a son-in-law, R.G. Svatos (2010); her parents, Dwight and Joshophine Herrold; a sister, Gladys; and a brother, George.
