Larry W. Roetman, 78, of Platte, SD passed away Tuesday, May 29, 2018 at his home. Funeral Services are 11:00 A.M. Saturday, June 2, 2018 at Olive Presbyterian Church in Platte. A Committal Service will take place at later date at the Platte City Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. Friday, June 1, 2018 at Mount Funeral Home in Platte with a 7:00 P.M. Prayer Service.
Larry Wayne Roetman was born on October 14, 1939 in Minneapolis, MN. He was adopted by Clifford V. and Fern (Tofflemire) Roetman and moved with the family from Minnesota to Wessington Springs, SD in 1947. He graduated from Wessington Springs High School in 1957 and went on to serve in the US Army from June 9, 1959 to May 8, 1961. Larry was united in marriage to Shirley E. Johnson on September 16, 1962 at the Olive Presbyterian Church in Platte, SD. He then began a lifelong career as a farmer and rancher.
Larry enjoyed attending area rodeos, John Deere tractors, putting up hay and tending cattle. He was also a member of the National Rifle Association.
Grateful for having shared in Larry’s life: his wife of over 55 years, Shirley E. Roetman of Platte, SD; two sons: Monte L. (Elizabeth) Roetman of Kearney, NE and Lance L. Roetman of Platte, SD; a granddaughter, Natalie E. Roetman; a step-grandson, Austin Fuehrer; a sister-in-law, Elaine Roetman of Wessington Springs, SD; a brother-in-law, Rolland (Jean) Johnson of Platte, SD; along with several nieces and nephews.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford and Fern Roetman; a brother, Darrel V. Roetman; and two sisters: Beverly (Harold) Taylor and Virginia (Owen) Kluksdahl.
