Mina (VanWagensveld) Isakson was born on January 7, 1930 to John and Leah VanWagensveld in Rock Rapids, Iowa. At around age five the family relocated to Armour, SD where her father was a Veterinarian. She attended Armour Schools, graduating in 1948. Mina was united in marriage to Enoch Isakson on March 24, 1951 at Ebenezer Lutheran Church, rural Corsica, SD. They lived near Plankinton, SD until 1956 when they moved to Enoch' s family farm near Corsica where she resided until just a few months before her death.
She worked for the A.S.C.S Offices in Plankinton and Armour for many years until leaving to help her husband on the farm. She put in many, many hours outside on the farm and still did all of the baking, cooking, laundry, canning and always had a very clean house. She loved to cook and bake. Despite battling diabetes for 40 plus years she always had baked treats that were widely known.
Grateful for having shared in Mina’s life: her son, Greg (Lynna) Isakson of Corsica, SD; five grandchildren: J.D. (Kayla) Isakson of Piedmont, SD, Amie (Mike) Dennison of Newark, Delaware, Dalton McGinnis of Sundance, Wyoming, Jamie (Lyndsyae) Sloan of Mitchell, SD and Danny Sloan of Mitchell, SD; son-in-law, Bill Sloan of Mitchell, SD; and 11 great grandchildren.
Mina was preceded in death by her husband, Enoch (Nov. 15, 2002); her daughter, Kristin Sloan; a grandson, Jason Sloan; a daughter-in-law, Julie Isakson; her parents; and a sister, Becky Toppen.
