Kenneth Dean "Kenny" Kuipers
Kenneth Dean Kuipers, 61, of Platte, SD passed away Sunday, November 18, 2018 at Platte Health Center Avera. Funeral Services are 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, November 21, 2018 at the First Reformed Church in Platte. A Committal Service will follow at Platte City Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. Tuesday, November 20, 2018 with a 7:00 P.M. Prayer Service.

Time together was time well spent. No truer words could be said about this man. Kenneth Dean Kuipers, 61, of Platte, SD passed away Sunday, November 18, 2018 at Platte Health Center Avera. Kenny was born on April 19, 1957 to George and Joann (Burma) Kuipers in Platte, SD. He graduated from Platte High School in 1975 and attended South Dakota State University before returning to his lifelong passion of farming, where he and his dad worked side by side for many years.

On July 23, 1983 Ken was united in marriage to Donna DeGroot at the First Reformed Church in Platte. Kenny was a follower of Christ and an active member of First Reformed Church, serving many years as an elder and deacon along with serving on many different committees. He was passionate about making others feel welcome, and always made sure no one was standing alone during coffee time. He was well known throughout the surrounding communities as well from serving on many boards including the Randall Community Water District, Pork Producers, and Lake George Township.

He enjoyed waking up early to drink coffee and read His Bible, boating, deer hunting with his kids, visiting places together on family vacations (especially the Black Hills), and being a grandpa. He understood the value of hard work and persistent determination, and lived a life that taught his family that they too can have victory over hard things. He had an incredible ability to make anyone laugh and everyone feel loved, and will be remembered fondly by all who knew him.

His huge heart and kind, steady personality caused many to view him as a father figure, and the strength that he embodied will be passed on through his kids. He will be incredibly missed, but his family takes comfort in knowing that he is enjoying insurmountable glory in Heaven with the One who has victory over death, and they look forward to the day they will all celebrate together.

Grateful for having shared in Ken’s life: his wife of over 35 years, Donna Kuipers of Platte, SD; their three children: Josh (Lindsey) Kuipers of Sioux Center, IA, Annie (Brandon) Feddersen of Platte, SD and Kalli (Josh) Oolman of Platte, SD; three grandchildren: Diamond and Amelia Kuipers, Gracelyn Oolman and Baby Feddersen on the way; his mother, Joann Kuipers of Platte, SD; three brothers: Steve (Suzie) Kuipers of Lancaster, CA, Kyle (Lisa) Kuipers of Yankton, SD and Perry Kuipers of Plymouth, MI; two sisters: Ronda Kuipers of Des Moines, IA and Sandy Williams of Belle Fourche, SD; along with many nieces, nephews and friends.

Ken was preceded in death by his father, George Kuipers; a sister-in-law, Marcy Kuipers; two brothers-in-law: George Williams and Larry Johnson; and parents-in-law, Thomas and Gertie DeGroot.
