Allis Hansum, 92, of Platte, SD passed away Wednesday, April 3, 2019 at Platte Health Center Avera. Funeral Services are 10:30 A.M. Monday, April 8, 2019 at the Platte Christian Reformed Church. A Committal Service will follow at Platte City Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2:00 – 4:00 P.M. Sunday, April 7, 2019 at Mount Funeral Home in Platte with a 4:00 P.M. Prayer Service.
Allis (Kuipers) Hansum was born to Albert and Dena (Meyerink) Kuipers on October 12, 1926, on the family farm north of Platte, South Dakota. She was one of ten children, having six brothers and three sisters. Allis attended grade school in Old Platte Country School, and graduated from Platte High School in 1944. After attending summer school at Southern Normal School in Springfield, South Dakota, she taught at Platte-area country schools.
On June 14, 1951, Allis was united in marriage to Marion Dirk Hansum at the family farm. To this union, six children were born: Ronald, Dee, Donn, Larry, Anthony, and Eva.
Allis enjoyed studying God's Word and working as a member of Excelsior Club, Ora et Labora, Dakota Auxiliary, Magdalenes Society and Gideons. At an early age, Allis confessed her faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. She wrote, "Just stand amazed at our Lord's great love and sacrifice on the cross, for all who confess their sins, believe in Jesus Christ, and live for Him."
Allis also enjoyed 20 grandchildren, and their families, including 17 great-grandchildren. Marion and Allis took several bus trips around the country, enjoying trees, flowers, animals and all God's creation.
Grateful for having shared in Allis' life are: her six children: Ron (the late Virg) Hansum of Evergreen Park, IL, Dee (Lyle) Nepodal of Platte, SD, Donn (Pamela) Hansum of Denver, CO, Larry (Jan) Hansum of Platte, SD, Anthony (Judy) Hansum of Platte, SD and Eva (Randy) Hedman of Bloomington, MN; 20 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; three brothers: Lloyd (Virginia) Kuipers, Marion (Marie) Kuipers and Gerald (Vonnie) Kuipers; a sister-in-law, Joann Kuipers; along with many nieces, nephews and friends.
Allis was preceded in death by her husband, Marion (Jun. 11, 2015); parents, Albert and Dena Kuipers; three brothers: Henry, Harm and George; three sisters: Nina, Adeline and Bertha (infant); a daughter-in-law, Virginia Hansum; great-grandchildren: Jackson Beckett and Mackenzie Haack; parents-in-law, Tony and Trina Hansum; four sisters-in-law: Betty Kuipers, Bertha Kuipers, Hattie Hansum and Fannie Van Zee; and a brother-in-law, Adrian Hansum.
