Harriet (Jasper) Sprik, age 101 yrs., was born to Jacobus and Gertrude (Slickers) Jasper on Feb. 2, 1918, near Orange City, IA, the tenth of seventeen children. She was baptized and made profession of her faith in the First CRC in Orange City, IA. She attended Orange City Christian School through eighth grade.
On October 8, 1940, she married Henry Sprik in the home where she had been born and raised. They lived on a farm near Orange City, IA, where their first son, Albert was born. They moved to Prairie View, KS, Henry’s hometown, where Glenda and Leon were born. A short time later they returned to IA where Harley was born. They then moved to Denver, CO, where Keith and Kent were born. In May of 1955 they moved their family of six children to a farm near Platte, SD where their twin sons, Larry and Loren, and their second daughter, Harriett Ann, were born. They remained in the Platte area until they were called to their heavenly homes, Henry in February, 2008, and Harriet on May 27, 2019. They had been married 67 ½ years.
Harriet loved being able to spend her years at home with her husband and children and eventually welcomed many grandchildren and great-grandchildren into her home. She spent many hours sewing, gardening and cooking for her family. Upon their retirement Harriet and Henry took many trips to see their family. When Henry got out the Atlas Harriet got out the suitcases and started packing. She was also gifted with a wonderful sense of humor and was known for her humorous sayings, some of which even her family had not heard until the last couple of years.
