Donald Mike Hoffman, 87, of Stickney, SD passed away Wednesday, July 3, 2019 at the Firesteel Healthcare Center in Mitchell, SD. Funeral Mass is 2:00 P.M. Monday, July 8, 2019 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Plankinton, SD. A Committal Service with Military Honors will follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Stickney. Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. Sunday, July 7, 2019 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Stickney with a 6:30 P.M. Rosary and 7:00 P.M. Wake Service.

Donald Mike Hoffman was born on July 20, 1931 to Mike and Teresa (Morath) Hoffman on the family farm south of White Lake, SD. He attended Kluthe Country School south of White Lake and went on to serve his country in the US Army from February of 1952 – November of 1953, during the Korean War. Throughout his career, he worked in construction, was a mechanic, a cattle buyer, owned and operated a trucking business, hauled hay and farmed. He truly believed that, “Any job worth doing, is worth doing well”.
On February 15, 1955, Don was united in marriage to Norma Jean Heath at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Anthon, Iowa. Donald was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus, as well as Dittrick-Barrows-Noldner American Legion Post #126 of Stickney. Don enjoyed growing flowers, selling fireworks, traveling and attending family events.
Don’s greatest treasures in life were: his eight children: Deb (Steve) Backes of Platte, SD, Donna (Gary) Lowin of Sioux Falls, SD, Mike (Kathy) Hoffman of Mitchell, SD, Mary (Dennis) Vanderheiden of Platte, SD, Judy (Dana) Chase of Mitchell, SD, Teresa (Scot) Drey of Pipestone, MN, Jim (Rhonda) Hoffman of Yankton, SD and Gary (Mary) Hoffman of Ethan, SD; 29 grandchildren; 38 great grandchildren; a sister, Florence Nelson and a sister-in-law, Wanda Hoffman both of Stickney, SD; along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Don was preceded in death by his wife, Norma (Oct. 11, 2004); a step son, Bob; a grandson, Jeff; an infant granddaughter; his parents; a sister, Margaret; three brothers: Clarence, Joseph in infancy and Raymond; his parents-in-law; and numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
