Cleo W. Bultsma, 76, of Platte, SD passed away Saturday, January 18, 2020 at his home. Memorial Services are 11:00 A.M. Monday, January 27, 2020 at the Platte Christian Reformed Church. A private family Committal Service will take place at Friesland Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church from 3:00 – 4:00 P.M. Sunday, January 26, 2020 with a 4:00 P.M. Prayer Service.

Cleo William Bultsma was born on October 30, 1943 to Nicholas and Emma (Dyk) Bultsma in Platte, SD. He attended country schools and Platte Christian School before beginning a lifelong career in ranching. On June 7, 1968 Cleo was united in marriage to Kathryn Tinklenberg at the Holland Christian Reformed Church in Holland, MN. He was a member of the Platte Christian Reformed Church and served in the Army National Guard.
A dedicated member of the Mid-Missouri River Prescribed Burn Association - to control the spread of cedar trees, Cleo loved being outdoors camping and riding in the Missouri River hills. He had a talent for calling coyotes and was a skilled knife maker. He was an enthusiastic hunter of game birds and many animals. Cleo also enjoyed attending range management seminars, which gave him good ideas for improving grazing conditions on the ranch. When he sold his beef cattle herd, Cleo and Kathy went traveling often.
Grateful for having shared in Cleo’s life: his wife of 51 years, Kathy Bultsma of Platte, SD; five children, 14 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren: daughter, Andrea (Paul) Covey of Portland , OR – Emmalyn, Willa and Hyatt; son, Eric (Tanya) Bultsma of Platte, SD – Steven (Jenna) and Weston, Austin (Sami) and Brielle, Blake and Luke; daughter, Christina (Rob) Antonides of Surrey, BC – Paige and Naomi; son, Clint (Amy) Bultsma of Plankinton, SD – Megan, Grace, Seth and Evan; son, Byron (Theresa) Bultsma of Rapid City, SD – Nicholas; a sister, Helena Haenel of Surprise, AZ; in-laws: Jackie (Arlan) Vandenbos, Gary (Karen) Tinklenberg, Cal (Connie) Tinklenberg and Roger (Barbara) Tinklenberg; along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Cleo was preceded in death by his parents, Nicholas and Emma Bultsma; a sister, Ruth and brother-in-law, Andy Schiphoff; a nephew, Jay Schiphoff; and a niece, Heidi Mulderink.
