James Clayton “Jim” Rommen, 89, of Platte, SD passed away Friday, December 4, 2020 at Platte Care Center Avera. Graveside Services will be 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, December 8, 2020 at Platte City Cemetery.
Jim was born on March 20, 1931, to Ed and Hazel (Gunderson) Rommen, on the family farm near Bovee, SD. He attended Platte High School and graduated in 1949. After graduating from high school, he began a lifelong career in farming.
On October 9, 1970, Jim married June Paauw Nydam. They lived on a farm near Bovee, SD, where they raised a son, James Craig Rommen.
Jim was a lifetime member of Trinity Lutheran Church. He was involved with Rhoda Township and served as a treasurer for many years. He lived and worked the same farmstead his entire life. He enjoyed camping, fishing, working the land, raising livestock, tinkering with machinery and doing woodworking projects.
Grateful for having shared in his life are: his brother, Morries (Sharon) Rommen; sister-in-law, Juelle Wendt; brother-in-law, Ken Mason; son, Jim (Kim) Rommen; stepchildren: Debra (Tom) Madigan, Diane (Doug) Sevening, and Larry (Nancy) Nydam; 9 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; along with many nieces and nephews.
Jim was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, June Rommen; parents, Ed and Hazel Rommen; sister, Audrey Mason; and a special nephew, Todd Mason.
