Dwight David Baker, 57, of Plankinton, SD passed away Saturday, January 2, 2021 at Avera Heart Hospital of South Dakota in Sioux Falls. Funeral Services are 10:30 A.M. Thursday, January 7, 2021 at Aurora Reformed Church, Aurora Center, SD. A Committal Service will follow at Aurora Reformed Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. Wednesday, January 6, 2021 with a 7:00 P.M. Prayer Service. The Service will be live-streamed on “Mount Funeral Homes” Facebook page and also under “Photos and Videos” in Dwight David’s record on our website.

Dwight David Baker was born on April 14, 1963 to Buddy Dwight and Bobbie B. (Bridges) Baker in Albany, GA. He graduated high school in Albany and continued his education by completing his degree in Horticulture. On February 24, 2007 Dwight David was united in marriage to Ruth Vande Zande at the Aurora Reformed Church in Aurora Center, SD.

Dwight David was employed as the Aurora County Emergency Manager and focused on disaster relief until retiring in 2018. Storm chasing was always a thrill for him. He was a man of God with a servant’s heart and passion for mission work. Starting Operation Love Thy Neighbor to assist in rebuilding homes in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. He was a member of The Lighthouse Fellowship in Corsica, SD.

Kids and family were Dwight David’s life. Having been adopted himself, family was very important to him and they felt blessed when they were able to adopt the boys they were fostering. Finding out that same week that they were pregnant, only added to their happiness. The house was always brimming with laughter and full of neighborhood kids. He served as lifeguard this summer for the family pool, which added to the fun. The highlight of his summer was attending a daddy/daughter night with his girls through the GEMS program and enjoying bonfires as a family. Whatever brought joy to the kids, brought Dwight David joy.

Grateful for having shared in Dwight David’s life: his wife of over 13 years, Ruth Baker of Plankinton, SD; their four children: Gage, Memphis, Julia and Bethany Baker of Plankinton, SD; his mother, Bobbie Baker of Albany, GA; his father and mother-in-law, Arlin and Marie Vande Zande of Plankinton, SD; brother-in-law, Jeremy (Amanda) Vande Zande of Jefferson, SD; three nephews: Cody Harman of Albany, GA, Aiden and Ansel Vande Zande of Jefferson, SD; along with many friends.

Dwight David was preceded in death by his father, Buddy Baker and his sister, Torri Harman.
