William "Bill" Edward Konechne was born on July 25, 1962 to Phillip and Maxine (Chmela) Konechne in Platte, SD. He graduated from Kimball High School in 1980 and went on to complete the Diesel Technology program at Lake Area Tech in Watertown, SD in 1982. On June 3, 1983, Bill was united in marriage to Patricia Ann Martin at the Ascension Lutheran Church in Brookings, SD. He started out working as a Farm Hand for Edgar and Marge Husman and then was employed at Brooks Hardware in Kimball from 1984 – 2001, when he purchased the business owning and operating it for the past 20 years.
Bill contributed to the Kimball community in many ways: he was a member of St. Margaret’s Catholic Church, active in the Knights of Columbus, a Fourth Degree member and was Grand Knight; a member of the Kimball Volunteer Fire Department, serving as Secretary and Treasurer, also voted 1991 Fireman of the Year; and was part of the Kimball Ambulance crew as an EMT, volunteering his service to both for the past 40 years.
A big sports fan, DIRTcar Racing was a passion of his - he especially liked being in the middle of it all in the pits. He enjoyed watching NASCAR races, college basketball and football games and going bowling. He also liked gardening, cooking, baking and completing Sudoku puzzles. Bill will fondly be remembered for his good-natured way of teasing and harassing everyone. He dearly loved his grandkids and cherished the time he spent with them. He will be greatly missed by family and friends.
Grateful for having shared in Bill’s life: his wife of over 37 years, Patricia Ann Konechne of Kimball, SD; three daughters and eight grandchildren: Miranda (Chris) Vore of Brandon, SD – Madelyn and Brecken, Samantha (Ryan) Urban of Pukwana, SD – Trace, Huntley, Rhett and Briggs and Cynthia (Matt) Peckham of Aberdeen, SD – Colt and Lincoln; a brother, Maynard (Patti Lee) Konechne of Kimball, SD; a sister, Judy Konechne of Kimball, SD; father-in-law, James M.
