Wayne Amel Vanderheiden, 73, of Platte, SD passed away Tuesday, February 16, 2021 at Platte Health Center Avera. Private family Memorial Services will be held at Mount Funeral Home in Platte with a private family Committal Service at Platte City Cemetery to follow.
Wayne Amel Vanderheiden was born on July 8, 1947 to Amel and Anna (Pekoske) Vanderheiden on the family farm near Platte, SD. He attended Platte Community School and went on to work for Vic Kayser in the body shop. In 1976 Wayne was united in marriage to Ramona Varee Tatum at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Platte.
He was very inquisitive and liked to take things apart and tinker with them - putting them back together was another question. He enjoyed searching for bargains at garage sales and going fishing. Wayne had a big heart and Ramona meant the world to him.
Grateful for having shared in Wayne’s life, two step children: Dave (Calista) Tatum of Highmore, SD and Deb (Dave) Blankartz of Ohio; four step grandchildren; four siblings: Floyd (Gert) Vanderheiden, Arnie (Shirley) Vanderheiden, Iona DuFrain and Don (Joann) Vanderheiden all of Platte, SD; two sisters-in-law: Miriam Vanderheiden of St. Peter, MN and Dorothy Petrik of Platte, SD; a brother-in-law, Tom (Marilyn) Tatum of Platte, SD; along with many nieces and nephews.
Wayne was preceded in death by: his wife, Ramona Vanderheiden (Aug. 13, 2005); his parents, Amel and Anna Vanderheiden; three siblings: Eugene (Anna) Vanderheiden, Lyle Vanderheiden and Elaine (Wes) Wilkins; and a brother-in-law, Don DuFrain.
