Obituary for Clarence Boltjes

Clarence Boltjes, 90, of Platte, SD passed away Saturday, March 6, 2021 at Platte Health Center Avera. Funeral Services are 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, March 9, 2021 at the Platte Christian Reformed Church. A Committal Service with Military Honors will follow at Platte City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Clarence’s honor may be directed to: Gideons, PO Box 223, Platte, SD 57369. The service will be live-streamed under "Photos and Videos" on the funeral home website (Webcasting), through “Mount Funeral Homes” Facebook page and at Covid procedures will be practiced.

Clarence Boltjes was born on January 30, 1931 to Gerrit and Susie (Tillema) Boltjes in Platte, SD. Attending Platte Township Country School and graduating from Platte High School in 1949 before going on to serve his country in the US Army from January 1952 – December 1953 during the Korean War. Clarence was united in marriage to Elaine Bultsma at the Platte Christian Reformed Church on March 5, 1954.

He was a farmer, had his own business as an excavating contractor, bagged groceries at the Platte Food Center, and was sexton of the Platte City Cemetery for many years.

Clarence was a member of the Platte Christian Reformed Church, serving as Elder and Deacon and on the Hamilton Township Country School Board. He was an active member of Campbell-Timmerman American Legion Post #115, the Horseman Club and the East River Sportsman’s Club. Clarence enjoyed hunting, golfing and traveling - visiting all 50 states.

Grateful for having shared in Clarence’s life: his wife of 67 years, Elaine Boltjes of Platte, SD; five children: Gary (Kathy) Boltjes, Craig Boltjes, Tami Boltjes, Steve (Erica) Boltjes and Tom (Vickie) Boltjes all of Platte, SD; 10 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; four siblings: Alice Van Zee of Platte, SD, Cornelia Tjeerdsma of Avon, SD, Bob (Barb) Boltjes of Platte, SD and Rod (Marge) Boltjes of Alta Loma, CA; along with many nieces and nephews.

Clarence was preceded in death by: his parents, Gerrit and Susie Boltjes; a daughter, Darla Boltjes; a brother, Percy Boltjes; an infant sister, Annie Boltjes; parents-in-law, Henry and Jessie Bultsma; two brothers-in-law: Jim Tjeerdsma and Alfred Van Zee; and a sister-in-law, Bernice (Harold) Jaeger.
