Obituary for Albert Lawrence "Al" Kuipers

Albert Lawrence Kuipers, 87, of Platte, SD passed away Saturday, March 20, 2021 at his home. A private family graveside service will be at the Platte City Cemetery followed by a Celebration of Life at 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, March 24, 2021 at the Platte Christian Reformed Church. Visitation will be held at the church from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. Tuesday, March 23, 2021 with a 7:00 P.M. prayer service. The service will be live-streamed under "Photos and Videos" on the funeral home website (Webcasting), through “Mount Funeral Homes” Facebook page and at www.plattecrc.org.

Albert Lawrence Kuipers was born on August 13, 1933 to Conrad and Jennie (VandenBos) Kuipers on the family farm near Platte, SD. He attended country grade school and graduated from Platte High School in 1952. Al spent his working life tending God's creation farming near Platte. He enjoyed his retirement working at Kuips Hardware - as their mailman and CEO of the rental center. His passion was his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ and sharing that faith with his family and community.

Albert was a lifelong member of the Platte Christian Reformed Church, serving as an Elder, Sunday School and Catechism teacher. He was also active in the Gideons, was on the Dakota Christian School Board and was voted Outstanding Young Farmer of 1966 by the South Dakota Farm Bureau. He also enjoyed woodworking and traveling to see his kids.

Albert married Marlene Ligtenberg in 1957 and of this union was born - Mark, Lowell and Brenda. Marlene passed away in 1961. In 1963 Albert married Delores Dornbush of Westfield, ND; to this union four children were born - Crystal, Juliann, Alison and Dorissa.

Albert is survived by his wife of 58 years, Delores; seven children: Mark (Renae) Kuipers of Platte, SD, Lowell (Shelley) Kuipers of Tea, SD, Brenda (Cor) VanderWel of Colorado Springs, CO, Crystal (Trent) DeLange of Corsica, SD, Juliann (Kurt) Vanden Bosch of Twin Falls, ID, Alison (Chad) DeKam of Colorado Springs, CO and Dorissa (Gary) Radersma of Colorado Springs, CO; 21 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; a sister, Evelyn Severson of Platte, SD; along with many nieces and nephews.

Albert was preceded in death by: his first wife, Marlene (Ligtenberg) Kuipers; his parents, Conrad and Jennie Kuipers; two brothers: Henry (Hermina) Kuipers and Bill (Nellie) Kuipers; a sister, Margaret (John) DeVries; a brother-in-law, Don Severson; and his parents-in-law, Cornie and Elizabeth Dornbush.
