Delmer Lee Vanden Bos was born on July 24, 1946 to John and Lena (Austhoff) Vanden Bos in Mitchell, SD. He graduated from Platte High School in 1965 and served in the National Guard for six years. On June 7, 1968 Delmer and Ruth (Mattson) Vanden Bos were united in marriage at the Platte Christian Reformed Church. Together they built their home on the Vanden Bos family farm where they began their lifelong adventure of farming and raising a wonderful family.
Delmer’s childhood dream was to become a farmer and raise a family. Shortly after Delmer and Ruth were married, they purchased and moved onto the family farm. Delmer, Ruth, and their three children worked as a family milking dairy cows and farming the land until 1988. When not in the field or enjoying his family, you could find Delmer in the church coming closer to God. The experiences he endured throughout his life taught him many values and strengthened his relationship with the Lord.
Delmer enjoyed his time on the farm making memories as a child with his brothers and sisters and then when he and Ruth moved to the farm and began their life of parenthood. While farming didn’t leave much leisure time, Delmer did enjoy spending time with his children and grandchildren making memories to cherish for a lifetime. After his retirement, Delmer found a love of mowing, attending his grandchildren’s games and performances, having coffee with friends, and spending time with his wife. Delmer’s love of music, family, friends, and playing a game of Wahoo brought excitement and joy into the world that he shared with so many.
Delmer’s legacy lives on through the people and places that he treasured deeply.
